How to Report a Pothole in Karachi — KMC Complaint Guide

Reporting Potholes in Karachi

Karachi's roads are a shared trauma. But not all potholes go to the same department — knowing who's responsible for YOUR road is the key.

Who Maintains Which Roads?

AuthorityRoads
KMC Works DepartmentMain arterial roads, flyovers, underpasses
DHA WorksAll roads within DHA Phase I–VIII
NHA (National Highway Authority)Super Highway, Northern Bypass, Hub River Road
District Municipal CorporationsInternal colony roads, secondary streets
Bahria Town/PrivateRoads within private housing societies

How to Report

For KMC Roads:

  • Call 1339 (CM Karachi Helpline)
  • Say: "Road complaint — pothole on [exact road name] near [landmark]"
  • Classify as "Category A — Emergency Road Hazard" if the pothole is large enough to cause accidents
  • Get a complaint number
  • For DHA Roads:

  • Use the DHA complaint portal or call (021) 35311297
  • Include the phase number and street name
  • For Colony/Internal Roads:

  • Contact your area's District Municipal Corporation (DMC)
  • Gulshan/Jauhar: DMC East — (021) 99230503
  • North Nazimabad/FB Area: DMC Central
  • Orangi/Baldia: DMC West
  • Make Your Complaint Stronger

  • Take a photo with something for scale (a shoe, a bottle) next to the pothole
  • Include GPS location — screenshots from Google Maps work
  • Mention accidents — "two motorcycles have fallen here this week" gets faster response than "there's a hole"
  • File on Mashvara — a public, upvoted complaint with photos is harder to ignore than a phone call
  • Timeline

KMC's official response window is 7 days for Category A complaints. Reality is often 2–4 weeks. Persistent follow-ups and community pressure (via Mashvara upvotes) speed things up.
