Reporting Potholes in Karachi

Road ownership varies across KMC, town or district bodies, cantonments, DHA, the National Highway Authority and private societies. Confirm the authority before filing.

Who Maintains Which Roads?

AuthorityRoads
KMC / local municipal bodyMunicipal roads and public spaces within its notified jurisdiction
Cantonment or DHA administrationRoads managed inside the relevant cantonment or DHA area
National Highway AuthorityRoads officially designated as part of the national highway network
Private societyRoads maintained by that society under its own rules

How to Report

For KMC Roads:

  1. 1Use 1339 (Sindh Citizen Complaint System)
  2. 2Say: "Road complaint — pothole on [exact road name] near [landmark]"
  3. 3Describe any immediate safety risk without exaggeration
  4. 4Save the complaint number

For DHA Roads:

  1. 1Use the current complaint channel shown on DHA Karachi's official website
  2. 2Include the phase number and street name

For Colony/Internal Roads:

  1. 1Contact your area's District Municipal Corporation (DMC)
  2. 2Confirm the current town or municipal body on an official Sindh or local-government page
  3. 3Reference the same location and evidence if you also create a 1339 record

Make Your Complaint Stronger

  • Take a photo with something for scale (a shoe, a bottle) next to the pothole
  • Include GPS location — screenshots from Google Maps work
  • Mention incidents only when verified — never invent an accident to increase urgency
  • File on Mashvara — use the public page as an evidence record, not as a replacement for the official complaint

Follow-up

Keep the official complaint number, date, location and original photo. Add a dated follow-up when the condition changes, and mark a Mashvara report resolved only after the repair is independently confirmed.
